Miriam Real, Ph.D.
Author
Miriam Real earned an M.A. and a Ph.D. in American
history from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where
she was an E.B. Fred Fellow. She earned her B.A. from
Swarthmore College, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
After working for ten years as an interviewer and editor
for the Regional Oral History Office of The Bancroft
Library, University of California, Berkeley, she founded
her own firm, Oral History Associates, which prepared
histories - both written and oral - for corporations and
individuals. She is the author of six books and numerous
articles, and has been featured in the
New York Times,
the San Francisco Chronicle, the Oakland Tribune, and
the San Francisco Business Journal.
Dr. Real has taught U.S. history, European history, and
oral history at the college and high school levels.
Dr. Real grew up in Brooklyn, New York and has lived in
the San Francisco Bay Area since 1967. She has a grown
son, and lives with her husband in Mill Valley, CA.
Robert Lawrence Alper III
Research Assistant
Mr. Alper earned his BA and MA in United States History
from San Francisco State University, where he graduated
with honors from the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor
Society. He was a Graduate Student Assistant for four
upper division lecture courses in California History.
Preceding his work on The Jewish Revolution in San
Francisco, Mr. Alper worked as an Archives Technician
for the National Archives at San Francisco. He grew up
in eastern Pennsylvania, but has called San Francisco
home since 2000.
